Why I created
The Buyer's Agent Portugal
When I began working in the Portuguese real estate market, I saw a system built around selling property. However the relationship with the buyer began, the commercial objective was the same: to bring a sale to completion.
What was missing was someone looking at the purchase solely from the buyer’s side.
That imbalance stayed with me. Buying a property in Portugal should be exciting, but it is also one of the biggest financial decisions most people will make. In an unfamiliar country, you do not know what you do not know. You may not even know which questions to ask.
I wanted buyers to keep that excitement while having someone beside them to challenge assumptions, identify what needed further checking and bring in the right specialists.
That is why I created The Buyer’s Agent Portugal: to bring more balance to the buying process and give buyers someone who starts with them, not with a property that needs to be sold.

Maya de Filippo
Before moving to Portugal in 2020, Maya spent fifteen years living and working internationally. Her career included senior roles with the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, International SOS, the Olympic Committee in Switzerland and the mining sector in Morocco.
Her work required her to assess risk, look beneath the surface and make careful decisions in unfamiliar environments.
After settling in the Algarve, she joined one of Portugal’s largest estate agencies. It was there that she saw first-hand how much international buyers were expected to manage for themselves and how often no one was looking at the purchase as a whole from their side.
She believed buyers needed more than help finding a property. They needed someone to understand their plans, search and assess suitable properties, question the price and information being presented, bring in the right specialists, negotiate on their behalf and keep the purchase moving from beginning to end.
That conviction led her to create The Buyer’s Agent Portugal.
Maya does not see her job as making every purchase happen. Her job is to help each client make the right decision, including when that means walking away.
